The Grumman G-118 was a small, twin-engine transport aircraft that was primarily used by the United States Navy and the United States Air Force in the 1950s and 1960s. It was known by several different names, including the C-1A Trader in the Navy, the TF-1 in the Air Force, and the C-1 in civilian service.
With a wingspan of 72 feet and a length of 52 feet, the G-118 had a maximum speed of 300 miles per hour and a range of around 900 miles. It could carry up to 10 passengers or 3,500 pounds of cargo.
The G-118 was commonly used for transport missions, as well as for aircrew training and medical evacuation. It also played a role in several important historical moments, including the Cuban Missile Crisis and the recovery of John Glenn's spacecraft after his orbit of the Earth.
Production of the G-118 ended in 1964, with a total of 87 aircraft built. Today, a handful of G-118s remain in service with private individuals and small airlines.
